Cathie

Cathie launched Savoy Dance in 2015, named after the iconic Savoy Ballroom in Harlem, New York (1926–1958). Inspired by the dance’s creative and improvisational roots, she wanted to create a welcoming space where people of all backgrounds, ages, professions and genders could connect through dance.

Cathie has been swing dancing since 2003 and solo dancing for as long as she can remember. With a background in gymnastics and jazz dance, she brings warmth, passion and a strong love of partner connection to her teaching. After initially thriving on fast lindy hop and aerials, Cathie developed a deep love and talent for slower Blues dancing. She has performed with Melbourne dance troupes Brat Pack, Scat Pack and Echoes of Harlem before moving to Canberra in 2009, and running a swing troupe for many years.

Cathie was thrilled to place in Australia’s top 100 in the first season of So You Think You Can Dance, and has appeared on Dancing with the Stars and Underbelly: Razor. She has taught workshops across Australia, New Zealand and London, co-presented Australia’s first Slow Swing event, Slowdown, celebrated 10 years of Savoy Dance by co-running SD10 in 2025. She has an amazing array of teachers part of the team - you will love learning from all Savoy teachers. Cathie can’t wait for the next dance with you!
