We hear you. Mondays can be a little tough, as we dive into the working week ahead. Some come and kick start your week with a gentle dance in an oh-so classy setting! We are extremely excited to be working with Hippo Co. Bar, who have the most beautiful venue and decadent array of whiskeys and cocktails, that absolutely deserve trying.

In the lead up to Australia’s first ever integrated slow dance event, Slowdown, to be held in Canberra from 16-18 October, we’re introducing you to the sultry style of Blues dancing, so you can start getting excited about the October weekend, which will include workshops from some of the best slow swing blues and tap dancers in the country.

Across 8 weekly Monday nights, starting Monday 24 August, you’ll learn the beautiful style of Blues Dancing – then can you can flex your fancy footwork over the Slowdown weekend, which will be filled with Blues, Balboa, Lindy Hop, Solo Jazz and Tap workshops to fill your dance soul (and not to mention live music to boot)!

Social dancing re-launches this Friday 21 August, with a bumper one hour class at 6.30pm with the lovely Richa and Adam, followed by social dancing at 7.30pm till late.

ANU Swing Dance Classes resume THIS SATURDAY 8 August!


If Saturday is your day to get active and do something fun for your self, then come on down to the ANU Sports Union this Saturday to give swing dancing a go! Running for 10 weeks, you can learn to Charleston, Lindy Hop and more….. so you’ll be gliding across the floor in no time. Plus, it’s a great opportunity to meet new people, make new friends and get active for an hour!

Conveniently located in the ANU sports gym, classes run every Saturday from 12.30pm-1.30pm – upstairs the aerobics room, on the beautiful wooden floor. No partner or experience required!

Learn the Big Apple !

Have you ever heard of the Big Apple dance? It’s a fast paced solo jazz routine which is often played at social nights and big events, and we’ll be teaching you all the steps!

For 3 weeks starting Wednesday 15 July, 7:15 – 8:30pm will be Big Apple time for dancers of all skill levels, even if you are a first time swing dancer! It’s not for the faint hearted, but it’s an incredibly fun routine that will improve your partner dancing ability, introduce you to infamous solo jazz moves, all whilst giving you a good fitness workout.

The African-American roots of this dance, the Big Apple, are fascinating, and we encourage you to learn about it’s history.

It will be taught over three sessions which will be progressive. Bring friends or come solo to the following sessions!

Glenn Miller was one of the swing era’s biggest composers & band leaders around the early 40’s, a huge name in swing’s history. And just by coming along to tonight’s Savoy Social, one lucky person will win two tickets to see the Glenn Miller Orchestra who are touring through Canberra on Saturday 27 June for one night only!

The doors open at 7.30pm with a 30 minute lesson, and social dancing from 8pm. The venue is our regular lesson studio in the Griffin Centre, off Narellan Place, Canberra City. What a great way to end your week and start your weekend!

Social Dancing Starts 15 May

Social Dancing Fridays with Savoy DanceSavoy Dance is proudly introducing regular socials in the city from May 15.

Making it easy to catch up with friends for an early dinner out, join us for a social dance every second Friday Night. Then, after the social, let the city be your oyster, and enjoy a post dance drink, snack or scrumptious nightcap.

We’re offering a 30 minute lesson from 7.30-8pm, which is the perfect opportunity to introduce new friends to your favourite habit. Come early for the lesson, or join us from 8pm onwards as we get your weekend off to a swinging great start!
