Want to add rhythm and styling to your dance?! Tap dancing is great fitness and provides a fantastic foundation to allow more creativity and movement in your swing dancing. Tap has started to become a thing in the worldwide Swing Dance community, and we’re joining in.

Savoy Dance is excited to announce our ‘4 weeks of beginner Tap dance series! Come to all four classes or drop in any of the four Saturdays. Each class will comprise :
– 3 foundational tap steps
– a practice chorey using those steps
– 1 tap time step or speed step
– one quarter of the Leonard Reed tap shim sham from 1927, leading to the full SHIM SHAM over 4 weeks!
– one tap step substituted into a swingout, leading to a full-tap swingout variation over the 4 weeks

Dates and time: Saturdays 23 April, 30 April, 7 May and 14 May from 9:00-10:00 am.

Cost: $12.50 per class at the door, or with your Savoy Dance 6 visit pass.

Venue: Blue Room, ANU Sports Union, North Road ANU. Ask the room location at the Sports Union reception desk, or turn right to the end of the corridor and up the stairs.

Shoes:
If you don’t have taps, bring leather or other hard soled shoes. If you have taps bring them! If you’ve always wanted an excuse to buy tap shoes and this is it, see bloch.com.au, cost $90 for womens and $110 for guys. There is a Bloch shop in the Canberra Centre Civic.

If you can already tap and just want to learn the Leonard Reed SHIM SHAM, join us in week 4 where we’ll review and dance the whole thing! Please email us to book if you’d like to join so we have a tap board for oyu. The more the merrier!

We are also looking to run a second 4 week beginner-intermediate class to follow on from this block. Come join in!
